Tantra sessions can be serious work embodied in abundant play! The impetus of having so much fun encourages us to push the boundaries of what we know to make new discoveries about our environments, partners, the world, and most importantly ourselves.
In a Tantra session we are working with two major systems in the body to stimulate and energize the entire body system: Nervous system, Circulatory system. When working with these systems there are a few things we need to be aware of, and of course prepare for:
1. Extreme work in these areas may cause strange sensations in the body that manifest as Tetney, or a tingling sensation felt throughout the body and especially in the hands, feet, face, and top of the head. If you feel this, then you know you’re using the proper techniques and stimulating the nervous system. Tetney can feel like little orgasms exploding throughout your entire body – and this is exactly what it is!
2. You may feel a slight light-headedness throughout the session. Sometimes this feels euphoric and other times can feel uncomfortable. We always want to veer towards euphoric; and we can correct any imbalances here with our breath and relaxation techniques.
3. The intensity of this work may cause emotional sensations as well as physical sensations. Often people experience emotional release during or after a session.
4. The body system is very sensitive during and directly after a Tantra session, and for this reason we want to begin with a clean and clear “canvas”. Please do not consume alcohol, medication (Vicodin, Viagra, Asprin, Tylenol, Heart or Lung medication, etc…), drugs, caffeine stimulants (coffee, strong tea, cola, etc…) at least four hours before a session. Please let me know during our initial phone consultation if you take medication of any kind. This will greatly minimize any chances of incurring uncomfortable sensations and maximize your potential for bliss!
5. Although a Tantra session is about exploration in its free and raw form, I find that individuals who have thought about the session and decided on a few things they’d like to focus in on helps to guide the session to a more fruitful and deep space. Here are a few areas you may want to hone in on…
- Body strength
- Breath strength
- Emotional well being
- Spiritual development
- Tension release
- Or, maybe you just want to plan to explore more deeply than you even have before!
6. It’s always important to have an open mind and an open heart in these sessions. This is sometimes so difficult for us to do. But, because you may not know me means that you’re in a unique position to fully express yourself and leave your inhibitions behind… Be up to the adventure!
